Base Metals

Base Metals

General metals refer to materials that are hard, glossy, and have high thermal and electrical conductivity. It can be contrasted with precious metals and is widely used in commercial and industrial applications such as construction and manufacturing, and exported as aluminum, copper, nickel

Aluminium

Due to its richness and ductility, small specific gravity, high conductivity of thermoelectricity, and strong corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, it can be processed in all forms such as plates, gourds, sewing materials, ships, government materials, and mold materials. It is used for aircraft, automobiles, ships, and railroads using light dots, and is used for transmission lines using the point of transfer of electricity. In addition, many other uses are known so far, such as packaging with paint and aluminum foil, building materials, and nuclear power plants. Because it has so many uses, the aluminum industry is of great importance, and it occupies a representative position in the light metal industry today.

Copper

Copper is a soft metal and has very high thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. Before contact with air, the copper surface exhibits a pinkish orange color and is mainly used as a medium for transferring heat or electricity, as well as raw material for building and various alloys. Copper is one of the rarest metals present in nature in a pure form that can be used immediately without smelting due to its relatively low reactivity. Copper is widely used throughout the manufacturing industry,so when the economy is good, demand increases and prices rise, and when the economy is bad, demand decreases and prices fall.

Nickel

Nickel can be used to prevent corrosion by plating on metal surfaces such as iron or making alloys to prevent rust due to its excellent adhesion. Mixing nickel with colored metals (gold, copper, etc.) has the effect of removing the color. The nickel-copper alloy (Baekdong) is very good as a coin material because it has a beautiful metal color and is resistant to wear and corrosion.

Zinc

Zinc is plated by passing a cold rolled steel sheet through a molten metal, electroplated in an electrolytic solution, and on the surface is oxidized first to protect the iron inside before it is oxidized. Even if it is oxidized, it is not as noticeable because it is white. Zinc, on the other hand, has a high oxidation sequence, so it continues to corrode when the exposure time is prolonged, so the method does not last very long, and it has been used for remarkable die casting in the automobile industry.

Lead

Lead has a large density, so items of the same size are heavier than other metal items, so they can secure the holding power of bullets, and because of their weight, they are less affected by the wind, they deform rapidly and stop, increasing internal damage. It is a soft, heavy, and plastic toxic metal after transfer, and the cut cross-section is bluish but discolored in the air and becomes blurry gray. About 35% of lead production is used as an electrode material for lead storage batteries in passenger cars or trucks. It is mainly used for construction, lead storage batteries, bullets, etc., and is used for temporary fusion alloys such as solder and white wax.

Tin

Tin is a silver metal with excellent conductivity and ductility that does not corrode in water but corrodes in acidic or basic conditions. In addition, it is oxidized in the air to form a protective film, and tin is thinly plated on other metals using these properties. It is used in the form of an alloy mixed with lead for a long time, used as a solder, is called a common mixture, is easily bonded with iron, and is used for surface plating to prevent corrosion such as lead, zinc, steel, etc.
